Nigeria's Independence Day Celebration
The Nigerian Community in Hampton Roads of Virginia, celebrates Nigeria's Independence in October every year.This event includes symposium,seminars and cultural activities to promote a positive image of Nigeria.
 
Nigeria Cultural Heritage Celebration
Nigeria's culture our pride,is celebrated yearly to promote and showcase the diversity of our culture and people.It includes the display of our artifacts,traditional dance,fashion show, Nigerian food and folklore.
 
Children's Picnic
This an annual event that takes place on the second Saturday of August every year to honor our kids before the next school year begins. The goal is to instill our cultural heritage on our children.
This event includes various activities,games,story telling,food,dancing and awards.
 
Christmas Gala
NWAHRVA celebrates the Christmas with family and friends, party usually starts at night at a major hotel ballroom.This is an event you don't want to miss. Check for time of the event.

Nigeria's cuisine is as diverse as its culture. Nigerian cooks have developed imaginative variations of their diet and created a culinary masterpieces such as Jollof rice,Suya,Melon vegetable soup,Bean cake (moin-moin) e.t.c.
 
Spicezees Catering Recipe of the Day
JOLLOF RICE serves 4
600g/11b rice
1 kg / 21b meat or chicken
2 chillies (liquidised)
I onion (liquidised)
11tr / 2pints stock
I onion (sliced)
2 cans of stewed tomatoes
200ml groundnut oil
Seasoning
I bay leaf
teaspoon thyme
I clove garlic
I teaspoon curry
I teaspoon nutmeg
salt to taste
Wash the meat or chicken, season with garlic and salt. Place to cook until tender. Wash the rice and leave to drain. Heat the oil and fry the cooked meat until brown, remove from pan and fry the ground tomatoes, onions and chillies for 10minutes. Add the tomato puree and seasonings, fry for another 5 minutes, add the washed rice and gradually add the stock, stirring continuously.
Bring to the boil and reduced heat, cook for 15minutes until nearly soft. Add the sliced tomatoes, onions and fried meats. Stir cover and allow to steam until all the liquid is well absorbed. Serve hot garnished with meat
